Date Difference

Calculate the exact number of days, weeks, months, and years between two dates - including business days.

Guide

How to use the Date Difference

The Date Difference helps you make a quick estimate, compare scenarios, and understand the numbers behind the result. It is designed for fast planning, with enough context to make the answer useful instead of just a number.

  1. Choose the starting date, ending date, time, or location values that define the interval.
  2. Check whether the calculator is using calendar days, business days, time zones, or live countdown timing.
  3. Use the result breakdown to confirm the date math before copying it into a schedule or plan.

Method

How this calculator works

It calculates the calendar difference and can count workdays by excluding weekends where selected.

This calculator is useful for deadlines, project timelines, anniversaries, and date intervals.

Because assumptions matter, try a few values that represent optimistic, typical, and conservative cases.

Date and time results depend on calendar rules, local time zones, daylight saving changes, and the exact time selected.

Example

Worked example

From March 15 to September 1 of the same year is 170 days — about 5 months and 17 days, or just over 24 weeks. In business-day mode the count drops to roughly 121 weekdays, before subtracting any public holidays in your country.

FAQ

Common questions

How are business days counted between two dates?

Business-day mode counts only Monday through Friday, excluding weekends. Public holidays are not excluded automatically — they vary by country and region — so subtract any that fall in your range.

Why do different tools give different 'months between' answers?

Because months have different lengths, there are several conventions: counting complete calendar months, dividing days by 30.44, or anchoring to the same day-of-month. Tools that pick different conventions disagree by a day or a month near boundaries; the day count is the unambiguous figure.

What information do I need for the Date Difference?

You usually need start date, end date, and whether to count business days. You can change the inputs and recalculate as many times as needed.

How does the Date Difference calculate the result?

It calculates the calendar difference and can count workdays by excluding weekends where selected.

Are the results exact?

Date and time results depend on calendar rules, local time zones, daylight saving changes, and the exact time selected.
